Medical Microneedling
The use of micro-acupuncture systems (Derma rollers; dermapens; microneedling systems) is becoming very popular among doctors and patients. They rejuvenate the skin and promote collagen production. They also improve scars and scars.
Many anti-aging centers worldwide use this technique to rejuvenate the skin. At the same time, other therapeutic applications are added daily.

The Microneedling Concept
Microneedling devices have multiple, very fine needles, 0.2-3.0 mm long. These needles cause multiple micro-injuries to the skin. They penetrate the skin and reach the dermis. The needles penetrate the epidermis without damaging it. Due to the elasticity of the epidermal cells, the micro-holes close very quickly and within a few hours, the skin returns to its normal state. In the dermis, multiple micro-injuries mobilize the healing mechanism. Locally, micro-hemorrhage, aseptic inflammation and subsequent production of growth cell factors are generated. All this leads to the activation of fibroblasts and the production of collagen and elastin molecules, proteoglycans and other structural proteins of the stroma. Of course, repeated treatments are required to continue tissue remodeling and induce collagen genesis, which is a time-consuming process.
The advantage of using this method is that with minimal injury to the epidermis and the chorion, so without needing recovery time or risk of adverse events, we achieve skin regeneration.
Absorption of substances
When we apply a substance to the epidermis, a small percentage of it is absorbed and absorption depends on many factors (e.g. molecule size of the substance, skin condition, moisture, etc.). Using the derma roller, we create small channels in the epidermis through which active substances can easily penetrate and reach the dermis. This maximizes the effect of our treatments and is applicable to anti-aging treatments, scars, melasma, alopecia, cellulite.
Indications-contraindications
The treatment is indicated for all phototypes. It is also applicable to all skin types, even the thinnest skins. The treatment is effective at all ages and has no side effects. It is contraindicated for application to skin that heals by forming keloids, as well as for application to an area with inflammatory, active skin disease.
How the treatment is carried out
Anti-aging
Microneedling, as we have already said, is used in anti-aging. It can be used in combination with mesotherapy mixtures. Thin and deep wrinkles are treated in this way, small wrinkles are eliminated and more pronounced ones are reduced in depth. This is because it causes a significant increase in collagen, even in very aged skin. The texture of the skin is improved and its firmness is increased. Needles > 1.0 mm in length are used.
Melasma - skin discolorations
The effect of using bleaching mixtures in combination with microneedling is impressive.
The bleaching substances penetrate the epidermis and dermis, maximizing their therapeutic effect. At the same time, the overall texture, tone and firmness of the skin is improved.
Scars - stretch marks
Scars of all types (except keloids), even post-needle scars can be treated satisfactorily with this treatment. Clear indications are acne scars.
In the case of active acne, it must first be treated. Also, striae (stretch marks), regardless of their age (even white), can be detected.
Cellulite
Cellulite is a very common, aesthetic problem that remains intractable.
It appears that microneedling treatments, combined with the application of specific fat dissolving and tightening mixtures, improve cellulite and additionally tighten the overlying skin.
Androgenetic type Alopecia
Mesotherapy has good results, but it is painful, therefore uncomfortable for the patient. With microneedling, we can, in a painless way, administer hair growth factors, minerals, vitamins, etc. at the level of the chorion, i.e. where the hair root is located.
The results after 4-6 treatments are impressive. Maintenance treatments are of course required.

How the treatment is carried out
- We choose the appropriate needle length for the case and the area to be treated.
- We sterilize the treated area very well. We use local anesthesia (topical anesthetic cream is sufficient in most cases).
- "Pierce" the whole area until a slight diffuse erythema is created. The erythema lasts for about 1-3 days and may be followed by mild peeling of the skin.
- Immediately after the treatment, a cool dressing may be applied to relieve a mild burning sensation that is present.
